Rules for Examination
Chittagong Medical College, abbreviated as CMC, is a public medical college located in Chittagong, Bangladesh. It is the second-oldest and second-largest medical educational institute and hospital in Bangladesh. It is affiliated with the Chittagong Medical University.
Common Rules for Examinations
MBBS
Common Rules
- University Professional MBBS examinations will be held twice a year and will start in the months of May and November.
- University Professional MBBS examinations will be completed within the specified time of the concerned phase.
- There will be no carry-on system before passing the First Professional MBBS Examination.
- Students appearing in the First Professional MBBS Examination may attend clinical classes before publication of results.
- If a student fails in any subject of the First Professional MBBS Examination, he/she will not be allowed to continue clinical and other classes of the Second Phase until passing the First Professional Examination.
- After passing all subjects of the First Professional MBBS Examination and fulfilling all other prerequisites, students may appear in the Second Professional MBBS Examination.
- To appear in the Third Professional MBBS Examination, students must pass all subjects of the Second Professional MBBS Examination and fulfill all other prerequisites as per curriculum.
- To appear in the Fourth (Final) Professional MBBS Examination, students must pass all subjects of the Third Professional MBBS Examination and fulfill all other prerequisites. Meanwhile, students may attend clinical ward placements and teaching–learning activities.

OSPE/OSCE:
- Instruments/equipment may be brought to oral boards to ask open questions in addition to Structured Oral Examination (SOE).
- Instrument-based viva will be applicable, especially in clinical subjects.
- Central OSPE/OSCE from the Dean’s Office after moderation is encouraged.

Structured Oral Examination (SOE):
- Instead of specific structured questions, topics will be fixed covering a wide range of contents.
- Rating scales will be used for concurrent marking.
- Each student will be asked questions from all topics.
- Equal or average duration of time will be allocated for each student.
BDS
Common Rules
- University Professional BDS Examinations will be held twice a year and will start in the months of May and November.
- University Professional BDS Examinations will be completed within the specified time of the concerned phase.

After passing all subjects of the First Professional BDS Examination, students may appear in the Second Professional BDS Examination if all prerequisites are fulfilled.
Only students who appeared in the First Professional BDS Examination will be eligible to attend all classes of the Second Phase, including clinical ward placement, within two (02) weeks of completion of the First Professional Examination. - To appear in the Third Professional BDS Examination, students must pass all subjects of the Second Professional BDS Examination and fulfill all other prerequisites.

Fourth (Final) Professional BDS Examination:
- Students must pass all subjects of the Third Professional BDS Examination and fulfill all prerequisites as per curriculum.
- Students will be eligible to appear in the Fourth (Final) Professional BDS Examination after completion of 12 months from passing the Third Professional Examination to attain clinical skills and competencies.
